And I still can't get my hands into JIG the movie.-

I would never would change the place where I live, THOUGH living here has some negative things... There is no way I can get to watch Jig the movie D:
I was so excited about it but slowly I'm losing enthusiasm and forgetting about it.

But I got a nice option for all those who relate with my words!

:-) a lovely ID documentary that also follows the story of very nice dancers (And it's online!! oh... and free ;-) )
It isn't Jig the movie but I think it's worth seeing it.
Have fun!

My new ghillies are here!!

First of all I need to say that I got my new ghillies for about three weeks now. It took me a while to take the pictures because I am lazy. And they even came out so good, but my camera was low battery and I have been taking lots of pictures and really didn't feel inspired.

So this are the pumps! I am very happy with the result specially because there was no other shoe maker I could find that made this kind of shoes (in argentina).

They  are a bit hard in the sole but I think a little bit of dancing is going to do good for them :-D.

Another thing I would change is that the sole in the part of the arch is weird, its like its a little bit large for my arch, I dont know lol.

Anyway, I am pleased with the results and I hope to dance a lot in my new ghillies :-)

4.10.11

yay!! this week i might be getting my first ghillies :-)

Oh well, this monday I tried them out. This was a "test" to see if they fitted correctly, and we would see if any changes needed to be done before finishing them. Actually good thing we did this fitting test because they were a bit  big for me 1cm or so. They were like "oh is that your measure is smaller than you think" and I am like "it's that this shoes are meant to be very tight". So anyway they can fix them, then add some padding and they will be done :-) yay
I am so posting a picture haha!!

24.9.11

Finally getting my ghillies

So the shoemaker is willing to make my first pair of ghillies.  I am very excited!! I took him two pairs, one more complex and one simple. He decided to go for the complex one! Of course that will be more pricey and since he has to do the pattern and all that it got MORE pricier (well then if my friends want to make theirs it will actually be cheaper since he already has the pattern). So we are talking about $80. Oh yeah. That's a lot for me at least. Good thing I saved the money from my birthday and mother's day (in latinamerica) is coming soon!!!

I will take dozen of pictures as soon I have them haha

17.9.11

getting my first pair of ghillies?

Well yeah. After one year (and maybe a bit more) of using those modified ballet shoes I might soon have my own pair of normal ghillies xD. I actually found a shoe-maker who is speciallized in dancing shoes in my town. It's funny because this place is small but if you want it you get it ;-). The thing is that ID is so unpopular here that she never saw a pair of them lol. BUT my lovely teacher has two pairs and we arranged with the shoe maker she will copy one of them. This week I will get the pricing and the estimated time for the shoemaker to actually "make" this shoes. I can't wait!
I want themmmm!!!

7.9.11

So... I guess I'm back to dancing :-)

I had my first class in 3 months yesterday. We just did one hour though (it's two hours) and just some slip jigs. But it's a great feeling to come back!!! I love it :-)

3.9.11

my dress is in stand-by (new proyect ideas o.O)

I got on weight this last months (I'm pregnant) and my dress (which I had to do some retouches and alterations) doesn't fit me anymore. So I think I will leave it for a while. I am thinking of other designs for dresses though XD. I want to improve with my dress making and maybe someday do one or two dresses for selling for people in south america. I wanna get a gooood pattern though, but in the area where I live it's so hard to receive packages and mail deliveries. You know any online pattern good for irish dancing dresses I can download? I used a burdastyle last time and It did work, but I had to modify it a lot for it to look like I wanted. And seriously I would rather something easier.

19.5.11

I am an irish dancer!!!!

I want someone to ask me, what do you do?
I wanna answer: I am an Irish Dancer.
But I need to consider myself a dancer first, now I am just someone who loves dancing.

5.5.11

Update on my solo dress !!!

The sleeves and bodice with the knotwork done :-)

I added some shine to the knot of the neck. (I wanna add some also to the sleeves and maybe... to the panels of the skirt and... OH MY GOD IRISH DANCING LEADS YOU TO AN ADDICTION TO SHINY THINGS :( -)

The bodice after sewing the BAD QUALITY HORRIBLE invisible zipper which broke after I pulled it up. (And sewing an invisible zipper wasn't fun at all). So now Im doubting about the zipper issue. I chose the invisible one because it would have a neater ending (and after looking the result... IT DOES) but I doubt about the quality of the invisible zippers you can buy in this area, so sigh, I don't know. I decided to forget about the zipper issue for a while.

The skirt is done... or not... It needs some shine, doesn't it?

Understanding the Music for Dancing (Irish Dance)

I found this post very helpful to clear my doubts about irish dance music.

Here it is a link to it, I hope its helpful for you too!!!

Jig Trailer

Oh my god I need to watch it!!!

Things I gotta Improve

1) I have to keep my legs more crossed. sometimes i forget about it and there is a big space between them and it just looks horrible when dancing.

2)I need to keep my arms straight. Specially if its a brand new dance It seems i'm going to fly away :-(

3) I need to speed up my trebles. They need to stop to look clumsy and slow.

23.4.11

Our last presentation.

Wow.
That really surprised me.
Our highland fling was perfect.
After I finished dancing my face must have been of surprise, not a single mistake, not tired, and everything on time. I guess that our bagpiper played it a little bit faster than what we are used to, and that made it easier.

As long as for our irish, it turned out good, but I was a little bit too nervous. So I didn't enjoyed it (at least the first dance).  I wanna learn more dances (we are always performing same dances and I don't know, I feel repetitive xD), we are actually on our slip jig and next thing on our list is a 3hand reel and maybe sword dance and also our first treble reel!! (mastering the treble is turning so hard for me!!!)

31.3.11

our next presentation (april)

It will be held on April for a communities party, this are the dances that we are going to perform:

a jig for two
a jig
A reel for two
a two hand reel
beginners reel (yeah sometimes i'm tired of it too xD)

we are going to teach the people a scottish country dancing

and ... finish with Scottish dance: sword dance (my teacher is going to solo because we haven't learned it yet) and  highland fling (yes we learned that :O). Scottish dancing is so hard for me, but maybe its lack of practice, not sure heehe

My solo dress update 3

Since I wanted to do some embroidery work I found the two knots I needed for the sleeves would be a good opportunity. But after I finished it, i'm not sure about it yet.

What do you think?

30.3.11

My solo dress update2

Well,I am very happy to announce my dress is doing fine. I was unsure about the knot work and if I should do embroidery or find a nice cord or lace. Well I found the ideal material, is a silver lovely cord. It is a little bit more thin that I was looking for, but discovered I love it!!!

Un-Active?

Yesterday I went to my dancing lessons. An  hour later I had almost every leg muscle soaring (and it is a 2hour class), and they still do.

Why? Seriously, I don't know... maybe it's the cold weather, or maybe I was a little too enthusiast about my dress and should have done a little bit more of physical activity. Maybe a week between my dancing classes is a little bit too much and  I should practice twice a week. I will try to start practicing on my own on fridays or at least try to.

Another thing I notice is that I totally forgot is about ab work, Ive been so busy in everything else that I completely forgot about my routine. And it seems human body is so lazy that if you forget for a little period of time of a physical activity you have to start from scratch like if you had never in your hole life made it before. That is really frustrating but, for the sake of my dancing I should start with that routine as soon as possible.

29.3.11

My solo dress :-)

Well I have advanced in my project since last time I
wrote. I even took some pictures... :-)

This are the fabrics I choose :-). The greenish one is for the bodice, the blue one for the pleats, grey for the waist and the white one is really a silver very transparent fabric I will use for details.

The sleeve pattern on the fabric, ready to be marked :-)
For the inside I used the reverse side of my main fabric and sew it very tidy.

This is the sleeve already cut. The black thing is another fabric for inside extra support.  The grey triangle is the transparent silvery fabric (it's seriously horrible fabric to sew :-( )

This is the waist/belt. The pale fabric below is the one that will give support and where I'm going to sew the panels.

This are the parts of the bodice. I already sew them all together, it was tough because when I tried the pattern I did it in another fabric; and I didn't took into account my fabric would wrinkle so much when buying it.  But loads of patience did it and there's barely no wrinkles in piece of the dress .

Well, that's all so far... :-)

I still got tons of work to do but its doing good so far !!!

22.3.11

Creating my solo dress!!

I think the toughest part is done... (well at least for the moment)

The sketch of my dress and the pattern are ready!!!! Now a big challenge comes, I need to choose two or three kinds of fabric (for the base, the marked details and maybe for the knots.) Also the pleats I was thinking of doing them in a color lighter than the base color.

19.3.11

Yesterday I had a revelation: Since I love sewing and Irish dancing, why not make a solo dress?
Feisanna don't even exist in my country, so the whole point will be mixing my two favorite things in life.

I started with a blank page. I knew some things for sure: deffinetly not puffballs or pleated skirts, also not figure skating look. A tennis style skirt is what I wanted. Also dropped waist. (will that make me look shorter? because i'm petit size).

Now is where the real challenge begins...

This are the colors I want: either purple and white, or green and white or silver.
I realized its very hard to decide how to make the knots for the dress and where to put them! I'm still in process...

18.3.11

Happy St Patrick's Day!

Oh well I know its late but, I hope you all Irish fans enjoyed it !!!

17.3.11

Irish Dancing My love :-)

Every day I notice how much I love Irish Dancing.  We are starting with our classes and practice, and everyday Im as excited as the first day I took my first class... and even more!

15.3.11

What's new?

A new year is beginning for me, even if it already started (we are 3 months away from new year's eve), it feels now it is really coming out! My dancing classes are starting today, i'm so excited!  My university classes will officially start next month but I already found the nursery where my son will attend and he likes it! It is hard I thought about leaving university in order to focus on my dancing and family. But I feel too old to just dance, plus I enjoy my university classes, I'll give it a try. As long as my dancing I will see how its going and what opportunities appear. I'm still dreaming of doing my TCRG one day!!
